I bought it and am pleased I did. The review was very fair. The Graves and Wiley articles are superb but the Henry Thomas a disappointment. Two things not mentioned. The paper and picture quality are of the highest standard but the book is bound too tightly making it impossible to fully open out. dj
My copy has no problem with being bound too tightly and opens quite easily.
I'd recommend John Collinson's article The Golden Age Of Blues Piano, a very personal look at some of Collinson's favorite players from the 20s and 30s. Collinson may not be up to date on the latest research - he repeats the old story about Jesse James' being taken from death row to record - but his descriptions of various pianists' playing is entertaining and informative. Pull out all those Document piano CDs (you all have them, don't you?) and listen along. oddenda
Kind of like 78 Quarterly, but with slick paper and a binding! Nicely done.
