I shall never forget the first sight I had of Fred in his dungarees, carrying his guitar and walking out of the woods toward us in a Mississippi night - Shirley Collins, quoted in The Southern Journey of Alan Lomax - Words, Photographs and Music, by Tom Piazza, LoC 2013
I'm working on this one, and could use some help, as english is not my strong point. I'll include an mp3 to listen.
Adam And Eve
Tommie Bradley voc, gtr; James Cole vln; Eddie Dimmit mand; Richmond Ind., 27 September 1930
Adam and Eve, they?re in the Garden of Eden, Surely must?ve shook that thing. Adam and Eve,they?re in the Garden of Eden, Surely must?ve shook that thing, Because Adam said to Eve: ?You think you?re so cute, You wouldn?t give me none of that forbidden fruit.? Adam and Eve, they?re at the Garden of Eden, Surely must?ve shook that thing, oh Lord, Surely must?ve shook that thing.
Adam and Eve, they?re at the Garden of Eden, Surely must?ve shook that thing. Adam and Eve,they?re in the Garden of Eden, Surely must?ve shook that thing. They had one that's named Abel, one that's named Cain, You know by that they must?ve shook that thing. Adam and Eve, they?re at the Garden of Eden, Surely must?ve shook that thing, oh Lord, Surely must?ve shook that thing.
Here are the chord changes as far as I can tell:
||: C | C Am7 | D7 G7 | C |
| C | C Am7 | D7 | G7 |
| C | C7(/Bb) | F(/A) | Fm(/Ab) |
| C | C Am7 | D7 G7 | C Am7 |
| D7 G7 | C :||
Thanks for any help

If this is for performance or anything, you might want to fill it out with verses from Bogus Ben Covington (banjo, vocal, harmonica; 1928):
When Adam and Eve was in the Garden of Eden They must have shook that thing Well the leaves started fallin' The snake started crawlin' He must have give her a diamond ring Adam said to Eve, "You just won't wait Till I get out of this garden gate." When Adam and Eve was in the Garden of Eden They must have shook that thing
When Adam and Eve was in the Garden of Eden They must have shook that thing Well the leaves started fallin' The snake started crawlin' He must have give her a diamond ring Eve said to Adam, "If you care for me You'll eat this fruit from the Forbidden Tree." When Adam and Eve was in the Garden of Eden They must have shook that thing
When Adam and Eve was in the Garden of Eden They must have shook that thing Well the leaves started fallin' The snake started crawlin' He must have give her a diamond ring Eve said to Adam, "Go sleep in the crib," Adam said to Eve, "I'm gon' sleep with my rib." When Adam and Eve was in the Garden of Eden They must have shook that thing
Nothing to do with this song, but Adam and Eve were quite popular lyric wise, I recall they get a mention in Ellington's Chocolate Shake and can't I place the exact tune but Louis Jordan gives them a plug as well
Except I think Bradley screws up the lyrics in the second verse. He sings: "They had one named Cable, one named Nate..." instead of Abel and Cain, which would have been Biblically correct and rhymed better. I don't want to demean his knowledge about Adam and Eve's kids' names. I think it's an easy mistake to make, since usually Cain comes first in the pairing -- he combines Cain and Abel into "Cable" and then does the best with what's left!
Hi folks, Trying to decipher the words -- the fiddle part is so cool!! Please give a listen and let me know if you hear something different. Some of what I think I hear doesn't make any sense at all! Thanks, Suzy
Lord when I got up this morning, snow was on my window pane I got up this morning, snow was on my window pane I couldn?t even see my baby, Couldn?t even hear her name
Lawd and my baby?s leaving, Cryin? won?t make her stay My baby?s leaving, cryin? won?t make her stay Lord if I?m with you now, cry myself away
Lord and my room looks so lonesome, since my baby?s been gone My room looks lonesome, since Lord I ain?t got nobody, that I can call my own
Baby that you didn?t come to see me, Mama when I had so long You didn?t come to see me, Babe when I had so long If it?s in love with you baby, I would?ve been dead and gone
And you ain?t no good woman,You don?t mean no man no good You no good woman, don?t mean no man no good Lord if I don?t love you, I would not if I could
Verse 2 line 3 I hear as closer to "Lord if crying would do nice, cry myself away" but that doesn't make much more sense either. I hear the rest as you've transcribed.
It's from the Document "Tommie Bradley-James Cole Groups" CD, and it may also be on one of the Old Hat CDs (either "Violin sing the blues" or "He sure do pull some bow") but I can't remember right now.

I concur. The '??' word is tricky, I'm leaning toward 'nice' but not sure.
[edit: put a strikethough the Tompkins reference]
