In 1996
Living Blues asked me to interview John Lee Hooker for a cover story. To spare John's voice, I was asked to do it in two meetings. Our first interview, in December, took place in John's small bedroom, where he was sprawled across the bed in a silk three-piece suit. The second, five weeks later on January 20, 1997, was in his living room. I used a DAT recorder, so it's easy to hear him speak.
