Hurt would introduce 'Coffee Blues' by declaring that his favorite coffee was Maxwell House because it was 'good till the last drop.' This is the kind of song that comes with a wink and a nudge. At the Gaslight, the mug Hurt would bring to the stage was not filled with coffee, but with a spot of whiskey. - John Milward, notes from Mississippi John Hurt, The Complete Studio Recordings

Firstly - Hi all!

Have lurked for a while but thought time to show myself.  Great site!

I do love Muddy's take on this song but can't for the life of me find a tab for it.

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Mark

Put the guitar in Spanish tuning (DGDGBD) and slide away. You'll soon get it!

OK fair enough comment.  The one bit I struggle to get right is the lick right after the third line in each verse ("blowin my lonesome horn...") - any tips on that particular bit most welcome

Thanks

Hi R&D - If I am understanding the spot you refer to correctly, what I hear happening is a slide on the 5th string to the 3rd fret, followed by the open 4th string, then slide into the 5th fret on the 1st string. It repeats but adds a slide on the 6th string to introduce it.  Here's some lame notation:

---------/5----------------------/5----
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
-----0----------------------0-----------
-/3----------------0---/3--------------
--------------/3-----------------------
