I'm on a bit of a roll at the moment. Posting songs here has given me an incentive to actually properly finish and polish what I know and add the vocals (which I find tricky and often put off doing for as long as possible....) .
If I'm not careful I'm going to end up with an actual repertoire and will then have to go out and play in front of real people...
Hi Slim - sounding good. Nice and laid back. I don't know if you've just chosen to leave it out, but there's a nice couple bass notes on the 4th string that Julius Daniels hits in the third line
Aaaah, bring me my pistol, three rounds of ball I'm gonna kill everybody, whup a poor boy along Poor boy along, poor boy along, poor boy along
Right in those "Poor boy along" bits. It's simple, just moving from his G and D bass to fretting the 4th string at the second fret then hitting the next alternated bass note as the 4th string open. He does this a few times through that last line. The two notes, E then D, ring out nicely. Tonally, it's kind of like changing to a C chord, to my ear. He does this each time through the form.

I first posted this track to the Back Porch back in 2005 (gulp). I was barely out of my twenties
It has become a solid staple in my repertoire, and my go-to song if I'm asked to play something unprepared. It then became the opening track on my cd....
Going back and listening to the posting is cringe-making and nice at the same time because I can hear how much better I do the song now!
So here is an up to date, one take job for fun and comparison:
