Happy Birthday John Smith Hurt! I thank you for the music.
I'd like to dedicate this year's party on "The Back Porch" to Art Browning who sadly passed away this year (18th Aug 2013 R.I.P.).
I met Art only once, the brief occasion of my visit to MJH's home place on a September, Saturday afternoon in Mississippi in 2012 but he has left an indelible mark on me for the rest of my days. That afternoon his generosity and grace were inspirational. He silently and patiently listened to my learner renditions of MJH tunes played on his guitar and kept encouraging me to play another. When he should have been heading home not only did he spend nearly 2 hours walking me around MJH's home explaining fantastic detail such as how MJH made a brace for the leg of his chair with a tobacco tin (see pic attached) but then insisted on taking me personally to see The Valley Store when I asked for directions (see pic attached). I was lucky to have had that time with him and I feel his loss despite such a brief encounter.
So let's get this party rolling then! This year I have, for your delectation 14 MJH tune's from which you may choose to partake in. I have played the 14 tunes as taught by John Miller on his most excellent DVD's "The Guitar of MJH" Volume One & Volume Two. The recording is done live straight through and the stumbles remain where they fell. It was great fun to do and I am delighted to have reached this milestone. (It has taken " a while" to get myself to complete this project and play all 14!).This is a link to my You Tube Channel so hopefully you might drop in and listen to a tune for the day that is in it.
