I thought, and still do think, that Lemon was a very good guitarist. Gary disagreed. (laughter) Gary started to play a very accurate pastiche of Lemon's Black Snake Moan, and Gary just opened his mouth and let out with this incredible blood curdling scream, and then he stops and says, "Man, he couldn't have sung no louder if someone was cutting his throat". He was merciless - Reverend Gary Davis, by Dave Van Ronk

Fri. Jan. 22 -- at 7:30 in Portland Oregon:
Del Rey, Steve James, Eric & Suzy Thompson

The four of us will reunite for an evening of blues, hokum, ragtime and wackiness, punctuated by Steve's amazing stories and Del Rey's glittering guitars and retro fashion. We especially look forward to the resonator mandolin duels, er, duets from Steve and Eric, and to hearing some of the material from Suzy & Del's upcoming CD. The concert starts at 7:30 PM and will take place at Carvlin Hall at St. Phillips Neri Church, one block north of 17th and SE Division Streets, in Portland. For advance tickets, please call Dick Weissman at 503-452-0130. Note: bring your Portland Old Time Gathering ticket stub and get $2 off the ticket price!
