Police Dog Blues

Hi...

I recorded a little video of me doing Police Dog Blues. I'm working on tabbing more or less the way I play it, if anyone's interested...

Nice job, stupidfingers. Very smooth playing.

I'm always curious: do you do any other Blind Blake?

Wow! Great job. I love PD Blues. I have been working on a version from Grossmans book but don't have it yet. I would love to have any tab you have on this. I listened to some of your other stuff on Utube and really enjoyed them all.

SUPER performance, StupidFingers ("Stupid", indeed!)

Smooth, controlled, tasteful picking and smooth, controlled, tasteful singing. Not "showy-offy" in the slightest, no reaching for vocal or geetar effects that are out of your character or range...elegant and respectful of the original....By my standards, as optimal a listenable and watchable interpretation of the CB's as a third-millenium non-sharecropper could perform. (To me this is not a "backhanded compliment", but the highest praise.) I loved it, and look forward to much more from you.

that's just great -  only Slack's gonna be made at you for not showing your face while you sing!

thanks,

Hehe, we'll make him show his face next time! ;)

Very nice fingers, one of the all time CB classics and you do a great job.

Very nice, Mr. Fingers- I also enjoyed Ragpickin'.  I have Saslow's book, but was never aware of the tempo of the tune.  Attention Weenies, this is another cool tune to enjoy.

Hi Weenies (or are we Campbells?),

Thanks for all the cudos. I'm very flattered...

In answer to some of the questions...

I'm always curious: do you do any other Blind Blake?

I don't play any other complete Blake tunes. Bits of Black Dog Blues (learned from a Woody Mann video), bits of Chump Man Blues, and I'm semi-actively trying to learn That'll Never Happen No More (trying to figure that one out off of the recording).

Slack's gonna be made at you for not showing your face while you sing!

Sorry Slack...when I'm on the net at places like YouTube, I'm (perhaps) overly privacy-conscious. So to maintain an illusion of anonymity, I omitted my face. Steve McWilliam told me about WeenieCampbell, so here I am. If I'd made it for you guys, I'd have left in my face, but I daresay I might have frightened off some potential listeners.

I have Saslow's book, but was never aware of the tempo of the tune.

I have Saslow's book too, along with the original floppy acetate. But due to lack of a working turntable, I haven't listened to it in years. I'm not sure if I'm playing it even close to Saslow's tempo. I have a friend with a working turntable. I've been after a friend to convert the acetate to mp3. When that happens, I'd be happy to let you "listen" to it (nudge nudge wink wink).

Thanks again...

Hi Gene,

Yep, we are definitely Weenies and now so are you !!

Good to see you getting the comments on your playing - you deserve them. All you need to do now is post some more stuff.

Not sure if you know but I have TablEdit tabs for both "Chumpman Blues" and "That'll Never Happen No More" on my site over at:

http://www.stevemcwilliam.co.uk/guitar/tab.htm

Just in case they may help in you working them up to performance level.

Keep on pluckin'.

Steve   :)

I enjoyed listening this video, Congrats Stupidfingers, nice playing !

Speaking of Richard Salsow's Ragpickin', Richard has put downloadable mp3 files of the original music at :

Thanks for the link, Nicholas.  The arrangements are interesting, and now we are able to feel the tempos and hear the tunes as Saslow recorded them.
