Congratulations, John, on your new releases.

(I haven't seen any mention of these new instructional DVDs on Weenie, if I'm being redundant here, just delete this new thread.)

There's also "Improving Your Ear For The Country Blues Guitarist" (2 DVDs, 230 minutes), that has an extremely interesting portrait of the artist/instructor on the cover.

Congratulations, John!

Thanks for the mention of the new DVDs, Lindy and Stuart.  It was great to see you at the show the other night.  I'm curious--where did you see the artwork for the cover of "Improving Your Ear for the Country Blues Guitarist", Stuart?  I haven't seen anything about it on Stefan's website yet.
All best,
Johnm

The two sample lessons available on YouTube ("Johnson City Blues" and "Lawdy Lawdy Worried Blues") are splendid.  I'm looking forward to getting the DVDs.  (BTW the thumb upstrokes on JC blues solved a great mystery for me!).

Hi John:

It's on page 4 of the Winter 2011 print catalog that just arrived today. The availability date is given as November 5--same as the other two. I didn't see it on the website, so I guess it's not up yet. I thought that I'd mention it in case folks might want to bundle all three and get a 4th free as per Stefan's offer.

Thanks, Stuart.  I realize I received the same catalog in the mail today with that lesson in it.  I hope folks will check these lessons out.  There are some great songs on them and I think the ear-training one may be especially helpful for folks who are TAB-dependent for figuring out the music.
All best,
Johnm

I'm really looking forward to both of these. So many great tunes covered. Kudos to John for the selection and to SGW for putting them out.

Excellent! At the very least I'm putting the hillbilly dvd on Santa's list.

Gary

"TAB dependant"? Am I the only one out there who can't follow TAB to save my life? Maybe to find that one elusive note here and there....but that's about it, even on songs I know.

 Sorry for the momentary hijack.

Thanks for all the great learning material out there John.

You make a good point, Gary.  I think the primary value of the ear-training is to be able to hear someone play something and have a pretty good idea of how they did it, right off the bat.
All best,

I'm looking forward to the ear lesson.  I can sight read tab, but after a while it becomes a crutch.  I can figure out some simple tunes by ear, and I've actually transcribed a few old-time banjo tunes for which no tab exists.  But at some point I would like to move beyond tab.  Also recommended:  John's Chord Theory Lessons.

Coincidentally, the thread about the John Tefteller article in Fretboard Journal talks about Lane Hardin, one of the subjects of John's St Louis Blues Guitar DVD.

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any more info about when these will be available for direct download from the guitar workshop application?

Craig.

Hi Craig,
Stefan said over on the Woodshed a couple of days ago that they should be available in 2-3 weeks.

John,

Do you know when the "Improving Your Ear..." DVD will be listed on the Guitar Workshop website? It's not on there, though it says in the physical catalog that it's available now.

Hi Kenny,
No, I'm sorry, I don't know.  The catalog said it would be available November 5, so I would expect it any day now.
All best,
Johnm
