Forum Usage: Email Notifications
« on: January 09, 2004, 01:03:27 PM »
"Email Notifications" give web based forums like WeenieCampbell.com a one way method of communicating to your email account.? This can be handy if you want to be reminded or "notified" when new topics (or new messages within topics) are being posted.? Notifications can be set at the Board level (for new topics posted to the board) or at the Topic level (for new messages posted to that topic).? Notifications behave differently depending on flags set in your Profile->Notifications and Email settings.? This gets a little confusing, so I'll attempt to explain below.

Board level notifications:? Click "Notify" while viewing all Topics of a Board.? Depending on your "Profile->Notifications and Email" settings you may receive ONLY the 1st unread message of the first Topic posted in that board until you visit that Board again(whew!).? You must visit the Board repeatedly (after every new topic posted) to continue to receive additional topics.? (See "Profile->Notifications and Email->Receive topics email notification ONLY in 1st unread reply".)

To turn off board level notifications, click the "Notify" button of that Board again or click the link provided in the notification email or uncheck the Board Level checkboxes in Profile>Notifications and Email.

Topic level notifications work similarly.? Click "Notify" while viewing all Messages of a Topic.? Depending on your "Profile->Notifications Settings" you may receive ONLY the 1st unread message of the that Topic until you visit that Topic.? You must visit the Topic repeatedly(after every new message posted), to continue to receive additional? messages.? (See "Profile->Notifications and Email->Receive topics email notification ONLY in 1st unread reply".)

To turn off topic level notifications, click the "Notify" button of that Topic again or click the link provided in the notification email or uncheck the Topic Level checkboxes in Profile>Additional Settings>Notifications and Email.

Both Board level and Topic level Notifications are listed individually under Profile>Notifications and Email.?

The following Profile settings affect Notifications.
Profile>Notifications and Email:
  • Receive email notification when new Announcements are made

?
  • Receive topics email notification ONLY in 1st unread reply
  • Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic?
  • Current Topic Notifications
  • Current Board Notifications
