memphis minnie and little son joe - in my girlish days

(1/1)

gtrgrrl:
Hi All,
Not sure if this is the right thread to ask this, but I am revisiting Memphis Minnie lead part on "in my girlish days (1941).
I had previously tabbed this out in G with both guitars in standard tuning and no capo, but now may think that Minnie may play the lead part with a capo at 5 ( playing out of D position) ? Does anyone play this and have thoughts ?
Many thanks all !

CJB:
I believe they is playing in A standard tuning, tuned one step below, sounding in G.

gtrgrrl:
thanks for that @CJB - thats an interesting take. Can i ask what are your main markers/clues for her playing in A here  ?

CJB:
After checking different tunings and chord position (A and G), your appreciation is correct @gtrgrrl, Minnie's part is in G, capo at five playing out of D position. I believe Little Son Joe is playing rhythm guitar with G7 (chord barre at 3), C7 (first position) and D7 (third position) playing a boogie pattern in G first position in the guitar solo. Minnie's part can be played in A and G without a capo, but it's not the same. I have to listen more carefully.

gtrgrrl:
thanks for this @CJB.
