I met John Hurt through Mike Seger in Newport in '63. His agent, Tom Hopkins said we could sit and talk. Of course it was a festival and I was sitting backstage with him and a few people. A month or so later he was playing at the Philadelphia folk festival. I saw him approaching me and I started walking briskly to him to ask if he remembered me, I was in my early 20s, and when I got near enough, he said 'Hey Man! Do you remember me!?' hehe! Haven't seen mention of this here yet. New boxed set coming from Smithsonian Folkways later this month. 5-CDs, 140-page book, includes 16 unreleased tracks.
Happened to have a spare $150 day after pre orders open. Didn't hesitate for a second and can't wait to receive it when it comes! I initially felt a bit annoyed that the "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" so called 'duet with Bessie Smith' was not so, but then it hit me - this was the sound of a musical legend doing exactly what I do with my records, listening and learning by singing along. So I'm very much looking forward to it.

Thanks for the info Stuart. My complaint is not with Smithsonian Folkways -- although they should choose a different carrier -- so much as FedEx. $40 for shipping to Canada is extortionate. UPS tries the same bullshit, claiming brokerage fees.
Give me the good ol' USPS any day.
But I will likely wait for my local record store to get it and give them my business.
My guess is that Smithsonian has a contact with FedEx--probably exclusive--for some, if not all, of their items. Thus, the shipping options are limited--maybe even to only one for non- U.S. orders. This kind of thing can be maddening.

I figured as much, but I didn't know where you were specifically located. The United States Postal Service dropped its surface mail option to many countries several years ago, infuriating people who have family and friends abroad, as well as businesses with overseas customers. Options are limited.
