Hello all,
I have a couple of favorite local artists (Twin Cities/central Minnesota) that I've been compelled to share with others on this forum. Both play in very stripped down style with repertoires including healthy doses of pre-war blues and roots. I think other Juke listeners would likely enjoy their music as much as I have.
Charlie Parr is guy that reminds me of a cross between Alvin Youngblood Hart and Dave Van Ronk and seemingly channels the ghosts of Bukka White, Dock Boggs, and Harry Smith. His original material varies from washboard-accompanied rags to bleak bluesy meditations and odes. His homepage includes samples of his music: http://www.charlieparr.com/
Lonesome Dan Kase is young guitarist who performs solo and as part of Crush Collision (with Matt Yetter on mando, and Michel Beckman on washboard). He plays some great versions of songs by Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Boy Fuller, Gary Davis, and Sleepy John Estes, among others. You can hear samples of his and Crush Collision Trio's music at his homepage: www.lonesomedan.com/
I think these guys are both excellent musicians helping to keep alive roots and roots-style music. They deserve to get some attention from Juke listeners (maybe even to get added into the Juke Radio rotation). I'd like to hear what other people think of these guys' music.
Greg
