Call to 12 - stringers!
« on: May 21, 2005, 03:13:22 AM »
Hi all.
I play 12 - string exclusively (usually in drop-d tuning and with slide).
I'd love to swap tips with some other 12-stringers out there.
I've loved the 12 since I heard McTell and Leadbelly play it.
Been playin' it for years, and started slidin' with it maybe 6 months ago.

you'll find good  company here.  Love to hear you play some - give us a post on the Back Porch!  BTW, my eyes aren't very good, but some of those look like 6-strings in the pic...

Sorry, I should have said 'primarily' instead of 'exclusively'.
I DO have them, but I don't play them as much nowadays.
Two of those are my wife's guitars, and two are set up for slidin'.

Nice to meet ya Tom.

Hey, chris. Welcome.

I play a fair amount of 12 string, too. Check out my version of Broke Down engine on the Back Porch. There are a couple other twelve string numbers there as well, by Frankie and Prof Scratchy and maybe others. You'll find several good threads here concerning 12s, one about the different set ups used by McTell, Leadbelly and Barbecue Bob, another, titled somethin' like Georgia Guitar Workshop, has a list of the guitar keys and tunings of all the McTell's sides. Use the search function and search for "12 strring" and you should turn up lots of stuff.
All for now.

Woops, just noticed you posted your own version of BDE. Pretty drivin'! I guess mine is a little more traditional.

Thanks for listenin' John.
I gave your version a listen to, and posted a comment on the Porch.
Like I said, I'm very into Mr. McTell's music, and the way he played.
The Blues is in my heart, and I like to share with like-minded guys like you.

I'll see ya 'round.

P.S. And don't be surprised if ya see all them old 12-string threads poppin' up again...
