John had recently flown for the first time and did not like it at all. Pat Sky tried to reassure him, saying it was a pretty safe means of transport and adding, "Anyway, when it's your time to go, it's your time to go." John thought a while and answered, "Yeah, but what if you're on the plane and it's the pilot's time to go?" - from Phil Ratcliffe's Biography of Mississippi John Hurt

Harry Smith biography
« on: August 16, 2023, 07:29:14 AM »
There was a wonderful review (Dwight Garner) of the new biography of Harry Smith in yesterday's NYT. COSMIC SCHOLAR: The Life and Times of Harry Smith, by John Szwed. Can't wait. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/14/books/review/john-szwed-cosmic-scholar-harry-smith.html?

Has anybody seen the book yet?

Hi Vermonter:

Thanks for the link. No, I haven't seen the book, but John Szwed, along with with Bret Lunsford, will be giving a book talk at Town Hall Seattle in mid-September. It should be interesting.
