Blues videos
« on: December 13, 2013, 07:48:44 PM »
My son Jason, the guy from Austin with the big beard who attends Centrum blues week, has asked for videos of old blues players for Christmas.  He said he heard there were some shot in Europe in the 60s.  He wants to be able to see them play so he can pick up the tune.  Anyone would be fine, but he did mention Bo Carter.  Any suggestions where I might be able to buy some?

Hi Jerry - You'll want to check out http://www.guitarvideos.com/products/vestapol-dvds and look for the Legends of Country Blues series. There are 3 volumes with a wide variety of stuff. Then there is the newly released Legendary Country Blues Guitarists at the same site, which I haven't seen yet myself but all agree here that it looks like it will be fantastic.

Those are all currently on sale right now, by the way. $15 each, plus buy 3 get 1 free. Which would cover that series and the new release.

Hi Jerry:

Taking "shot in Europe in the 60s" as a clue, he might be thinking of the "American Folk Blues Festival" series. Here are a couple of links:

IIRC, there are four volumes. Here's the link to the first one:

Looks like three of them are available on Youtube--in whole or in part. I haven't done any comparisons, but you can check them out:

The AFBF DvD's are essential IMO. Everyone from Skip James and Son House to Otis Rush via Little Brother.
