Dopyera Collection at Elderly
« on: February 11, 2008, 07:36:43 AM »
I'm not a huge gear nut, but I do appreciate a purty instrument and came across this while browsing Elderly for prices on a new tuner (Intellitouch snapped in half).

Elderly is selling 12 instruments for the Dopyera family (plus the two benches Rudy and John worked on). Reso-fiddle, reso-ukes, reso-mandos, etc etc. Even a reso-lullabyka dedicated to Pat (Mrs. Richard) Nixon. I kid you not. I attach a photo but it's worth going to the Elderly site and downloading the pdf for some lovely reso-titillation. Lots of photos in the pdf.

That 1970's stuff is pretty wacky even by today's standards - it would be interesting to know how much Elderly thinks it's worth.  Maybe some guitar museum will buy it - it should be on public display.

Yep they've had that collection for quite a while now. There are some very cool piece's, I have been very tempted, but, being sold as a collection means very big $$$. I do think the violin looks really cool, I try to imagine how it might sound??
