Brownie McGhee ... says that after the gig all the important folk people came over and told him that he had to move to New York because "they didn't have any blues singers up there; that Josh White was the only one, and he'd gone white." McGhee laughingly adds that when he got to New York and met Josh, "when i saw how much money he was making, I said, 'Hey, show me how to go white too!''" - from Society Blues, Elijah Wale

Speak of the devil, this from last night:

Pete Seeger and entourage enter the park around the Columbus Circle monument at around 12:50 AM Saturday Morning after having marched down Broadway from 95th St. Quite a hike for a 92 year old!

Back at the ranch. Well the march arrived and I found myself "occupying" a piece of monument step not ten feet from where Pete and Arlo and Tao, and Dave Amram lead the multitudes in We Shall Overcome, We Are Climbing Jacob's Ladder and This Little Light of Mine" quite moving to see ancient Pete, Indian guide and choral director of every march I've been on since 1965 when I was the same age as my son is now. Singing along with him that close by was some sort of long delayed wish fulfillment. It was a sad thrill.

My loathings are simple: stupidity, oppression, crime, cruelty, soft music.

Wow.  Last time I saw Pete was 40 years ago, doing the same.  Incredible.
