Interestingly, my son works in a record store here in our town and he says more and more "young kids" are buying vinyl. Apart from the dance & hip-hop type stuff, they are discovering classic rock, blues, folk and jazz albums for the first time. Things go in cycles and late 80s pop LPs that were once hard to shift are now becoming more popular with vinyl buyers. Once or twice a year there is an indie rock festival close by and the kids who go into the shop buy all sorts of music on vinyl, including awful easy listening LPs (I think they are trying to outdo their peers by buying the most outlandish music they can find). A good friend here in the UK married a Polish girl some years ago and moved to Poland. At that point, he discarded his considerable vinyl collection. He came to regret this move a few years ago, so badly in fact he was almost bereaved. He is now busily buying up the missing collection, as well as adding new titles. As mentioned before I can recommend the services of Honest Jon's Records in London who operate an excellent mail-order service and carry a lot of titles on LP and CD that will appeal to Weenies (www.honestjons.com). There was an excellent article in FWW a few years ago on shellac:
http://www.finewoodworking.com/how-to/article/shellac%E2%80%99s-amazing-journey.aspx You might be able to get it through your local library if they have it in their holdings. The reason for record drives during WWII was because the supply was cut off. What you don't know about shellac won't make you puke. What's bugging you, Mr O'Muck? http://www.girlmeetsbug.com/ Hopefully, the fact that shellac too is edible, isn't a factor with all the missing 78's! Cheers Pan Pages: [1] Go Up
