I heard the news on the drive in to work this morning. Sad news, though he had a long life. And a life that mattered to so many people. Thanks, Pete.

Sad but what a life ! Those Rainbow quest videos played a huge part opening my eyes (and ears) to country blues and folk music.
RIP Pete wreid75
I wonder if he was the last living link to the performing days of Leadbelly? With him Guthrie now gone who is left?
I note that the 1981 biography by David King Dunaway is still in print.
Here's something from my book shelves (front/back), may have to click image to zoom. [attachment deleted by admin] One of my great heroes. Anybody on here who think they do Leadbelly better, just don't know! His live record with Big Bill started me down this road. An amazingly talented musician and a political hero. Sad day.
I'm very sorry to hear of Pete Seeger's passing. He was a very fine player and singer who generously introduced a lot of people to music and musicians that they might otherwise never have heard. He had strong convictions and was willing to bear the consequences of them. He was a brave man who always seemed hopeful for the future.
Sad news, and a great man done gone. But what a life, and a great inspiration to so many people.
The Power of Song documentary is up on youtube. Well worth your time: Glad I got to see Pete a couple times before he left us... Both times protesting the approaching war in Iraq back in 2002/3 (once in Manhattan in a sea of people, once in Kingston, NY in a much smaller crowd when I got close enough to almost touch the famous "this machine surrounds hate..." banjo).
If I live half as long and match even 1/16 of the musical contribution he made, I'd be a happy man. Rest in peace, Pete. P.S. For those of us here in Ummmerica... That link is lookin' like a dead end. I did find this though: Pete Seeger - The Power Of Song( An article about Pete's Rainbow Quest, including some YouTube links:
