Tampa Red's "Things 'Bout Comin' My Way" video
« on: May 01, 2010, 12:51:45 PM »
I promise this is my last video for awhile and I will give someone else some space! Here is a medley of Tampa's "Things 'Bout..." and "When Things Go Wrong". Also, the interlude is (I think) from his "Denver Blues". The axe is a brand spankin' new National German Silver Tricone that  needs some breaking in. We just posted 7 other new YouTube videos (some uke, too).

i see you shopped slides. I found the Blue ceramic was best for my Tri-cone too. Have you tried Elixers on it?

Nice.

Nothing touches that ring you get from German silver on a triplate.

Hi, Elwood Blues asked about the slide. It is a glass slide from UK's Diamond Bottlenecks (their Ultimate model). Very nice, with a lot of mass. I like the rounded tip so you can (in theory, at least) tilt the slide to play the inside strings without barring across unplayed strings. I find that ceramic or porcelin slides may have a somewhat grittier tone, but the trade off is more noise.
The new German Silver Tricone gives a much mellower tone than the edgier, brighter brass models. The one in the video really needs some break in time (six months to a year of a lot of playing). Cheers, James Clem

Hey,

Nice sound and playing!  I am just getting into this video production thing and would like to know what your set up is.  I can see that you use a condenser mike, but what's the brand etc....the phantom power and what's it going into?  Video camera?  I would appreciate a brief synopsis if you've got a few minutes.

Regards, Carlos
