I can tell you all from first-hand experience that Willie Salomon is one hell of a fine picker - especially playing in a Lonnie Johnson style.  His CD is well worth the money (but I should point out at this stage that I wrote the liner notes for it, so perhaps I'm biassed).  As well as playing both slide and picking guitar styles, he's also a fine piano and mandolin player, not to mention being a strong vocalist.

Willie is a past master at finding old guitars in the States (some on eBay and some from other sources), importing them into Germany and having them restored.  Some he has kept and some he has sold on.  I now own the Kalamazoo KGN-12 in the Vintage Gallery and a fine instrument it is too.

Many of the guitars were restored by Barry Denyer who appears on the excellent duo CD with Willie - again well worth investigating.  Barry used to be Roger Hubbard's musical partner in these here parts back in the 1970s.  Some of us, including Roger and top luthier and guitar expert, Rick Sellens, are flying out to Germany in March to celebrate Barry's 40 years of playing.

Parlor Picker pointed me in the direction of Willie Salomon some time ago. As well asd drooling over those guitars, I've really enjoyed listening to the soundclips on his web site. Must get round to buying a CD one of these days....

There are some great videos in this thread, some of which I've seen already and xsome which I'll check out when my wireless signal is stronger. ;)

Here's a grainy video of me, with poor sound, jamming at an underground bar in San Jose.  I'm doin' the slide guitar and vocals, a crazy chap named Al Kapone is providing the harp, and my friend Speakeasy Jen is providing percussion by banging on her guitar and occasionally trying to play second guitar but finding her guitar is not tuned to mine.  For you guitar geeks, I'm playing an early '60s/late '50s Harmony Stella.  $50 including shipping on e-bay.

Puttin' on my Carrhartts, I gotta work out in the field.

This French site seems to be very good. Apart from the growing number of blues videos, the search function reveals some of the most amazing jazz videos I've ever seen.

Actually, you may remember that Zak (BigHollowTwang) stated over on the IGS board that he didn't know of any specific places where Patton actually creates this sound, but it was suggested to him by the rythm in several of Patton's songs. It is a cool sound.

All for now.

Here's a clip of one of my favorite living guitar players, Craig Ventresco:

Craig is the closest thing I've ever met to a genius.  He plays with a flatpick and fingerpicks with his ring finger.  If you like the clip, I highly recommend his CD on Orgin Jazz Library called 'The Past is Yet to Come'.

He's also on the "Crumb" soundtrack.

Thanks for that, Todd. I was laughing uncontrollably with admiration by about the two-minute mark. One of the best guitar players I've seen.
