...here's another one-taker, and my second public performance ever, this time on my L-00 ... after playing my 12 for an hour this morning and getting a little revved on a fourth cup of coffee, I decided to record Church Bells ... I have to thank frankie for the inspiration to get this song up to speed after hearing his version about a year ago on the BP ... I'd learned the song from Ari 4 or 5 years ago, but allowed it to languish in the lower tiers of my song list, but after hearing frankie's soulful version I was inspired to play it more often ... I really like playing the song, and decided to quit at one take, even though there are a few bumps in the recording (see A2tom's? 80% rule), the guitar part is somewhat plain vanilla and my voice is pushed to its upper limit ... Church Bells is a great, great song, I hope I can do it some justice here
A superb version, Onewent! Great playing and fine singing. To answer Steve's question, I was going to remark that all the recent versions of this song I've heard are a lot more intricately played than the original vesion by Kid Prince Moore - there seems to be a lot more going on in the bass, and the chords follow the melody a lot more closely than in the original performance. What a great song!
...in retrospect, I probably should have posted this in the original Church Bells thread, sorry Steve ... just go to about the fourth page, I think, of the BP and you'll find the Church Bells thread ... you'll hear frankie's stellar version, plus, learn the structure of the song and some about KPM, who recorded it back in the day...

I really enjoyed it. The moving baseline is great for a change. I seem to play strictly an alternating base. Is it difficult to learn to have a moving baseline like that?
Nice job, onewent! Such great song. I think we can safely say that with Ari, Frankie, you and several other weenies no doubt who are working on the song like me (off and on), this wonderful tune has been dug out of obscurity and is in full revival mode.

I find that I do better w/ TAB when learning moving bass line, as opposed to alt bass, which sort of takes care of itself in a lot of ways, plus I think singing along w/ moving bass line is a little more intricate, too ...and, of course, lots of practice
