The old expression says, 'simplicity is only the absence of clutter', it's not a substance. That's all, right?... The timing's harder. The less notes you play, the harder the timing. When you're playing quick it's just eighth notes so they're all even. Syncopation is created from the space - Jerry Ricks, Port Townsend 97

Dixon Brothers - Beautiful Stars
« on: June 08, 2015, 10:46:33 AM »
Hey all
Just asking for some help again with yet another county-gospel performance (my new obsession?). This time it?s ?Beautiful Stars? by Howard & Dorsey Dixon with Dorsey?s wife Beatrice. This performance is just phenomenal.

I only need help with one line, but I appreciate any corrections too!

I see beautiful stars a-shining
Way up in the deep blue sky
Lights of a home where I am going
In that golden by and by

Oh the beautiful stars are shining
All around the Milky Way
By and by I?ll soon be going
To that land of an endless day

Once I had a loving savior
Left this earth so long ago
To prepare our home in glory
For  ???  ???

Oh the beautiful stars are shining?

When my life on earth is over
And I?ll see Jesus over there
I?ll join my loved ones up in glory
Among the beautiful stars so fair

Oh the beautiful stars are shining?

Hi Roi,
That is a really cool song.  I think I hear the mystery line as:
For HIS FAITHFUL ONES TO LOVE
All best,
Johnm

Thanks, it almost sounds like Beatrice is singing "below" and Dorsey is singing "to love"! Hard to choose.

Here is a pretty neat home recording of the song by my old friends Mac and Jenny Traynham from southern Virginia recorded sometime in the early 1980s.

I think Lightnin' got it with "below".  It makes more sense and it rhymes, which doesn't hurt.
All best,

FWIW, I've been listening to a bit of Dixons lately, and I'm with "below" -- to my ears they are both singing "below".

I agree with "below".

What a great song. Clearly I need vol 2 of the Dixon Bros. Lightnin', the version by Mac and Jenny is also very cool.
