Another acoustic blues show on facebook live

(1/2) > >>

MandolinPaul:
I did a Facebook Live show the other night - about 25 minutes of me singing and playing the blues on my mandolin and Irish tenor banjo. I don’t think I follow any traditional styles (please tell me if I’m wrong), but mostly come up with my own minimalist arrangements for the songs.

Here’s the URL if you’re interested in watching:
https://www.facebook.com/paulspafford/videos/10158152414598288/

The songs:
1. Nobody Cares for Me (instrumental noodling version of MJH song, mandolin)
2. Won’t Be Long for Day (Blind Willie McTell, banjo).
3. Forty Days and Forty Nights (Muddy Waters, banjo).
4. Born with the Blues (Brownie McGhee, banjo).
5. Let the Mermaids Flirt with Me (MJH, mandolin).
6. Your Baby Ain’t Sweet Like Mine (Papa Charlie Jackson, mandolin).
7. Sail On (Sonny Boy Williamson? Banjo).
8. Spoonful (Howlin' Wolf, banjo).

Since most people tell me how weird it is for me to be doing this stuff on these instruments (okay, it is), I’d love to hear any of your opinions.

Thanks,
Paul

Songs:
1. Just some noodling on a slow blues.
2. I Can’t Be Satisfied (Muddy Waters, mandolin).
3. Southbound Train (Big Bill Broonzy, banjo).
4. Hesitation Blues (Art Gilham, banjo)
5. Cutting Out (Walter Vinson, mandolin).
6. Liquor Store Blues (Sleepy John Estes, mandolin).
7. No Place to Go (Howlin' Wolf, banjo).
8. Kindhearted Woman Blues (Robert Johnson, banjo).
9. 16 Tons (Merle Travis, banjo).

I mistakenly said The Hesitation Blues was the Mississippi Sheiks. Most sources I've found list it as being by Art Gilham. The chord progression I use isn’t the usual, but is the first version I ever heard, and is firmly stuck in my brain.

MandolinPaul:
