At long last this week I collected my new guitar. It was made by my good friend and luthier Rick Sellens (rick218 on the Weenie) and for various reasons beyond his control (including personal and family illness) has been a long time coming. However the wait has been worth it. It is basically his take on a Martin 00 and he has designated it a 00-28VMP.
It has a Sitka spruce top and East Indian rosewood back and sides. The binding is flamed maple, as is the heel cap and the purfling is herringbone. The one-piece neck is mahogany and features a gorgeous volute and slotted headstock. The fingerboard is ebony, as are the fingerboard binding and the lovely, delicate pyramid bridge. The headstock has a rosewood veneer and carries Grover StaTite tuners with replacement ivoroid buttons (Rick designed and built a little device for removing the original metal ones).
The guitar already has a great tone, plenty of volume and is equally good for fingerpicking and strumming.
Rick has also finished a lovely sunburst OM, which our own Blueshome saw last week.

Coincidentally, for anyone interested, this was posted earlier this week over at IGS:
Having heard both these guitars, I can say that they are on a par with, or better than, anything I have heard in term of tone and have exceptional separation, ideal fingerpickers. Think Collings only better!
You'll be seeing mine Richard, but it all depends on whether or not Rick sells the OM. He seems a bit attached to it at the moment and reluctant to let it go, but if some rich Weenie stumps up loadsamoney, maybe he'll let her go.
I agree with Blueshome's succinct review of these two guitars. They are remarkable instruments.
