Savannah Woman- Ben Andrews

No- not the Mctell tune...

As some of you may know, Ben Andrews died recently.  There are some comments over at the Michael Messer forum for those who are interested.  Ben was a guy who had some problems, but his music has influenced me enormously and his 3 solo cds are all in my personal top 20. He put into even the sleepiest of songs, an honest raw power and energy that is rarely found in performers.  Some of his picking was sublime.  Some people might find his style a little too "in your face" but I was a big fan.

Anyway- I had some spare time after recording some other things, and was inspired to do this song as a sort of tribute (for what its worth).

As far as I am aware, this is an Andrews original, but I'm sure the weenie faithful can point me in the direction of where it came from or if I'm wrong on that.

I can't do the earthy vocals like Ben could, but I hope I've done it some justice.

Yeah, nice job Slim, sounds really good. I think the vocal is strong too, good raspy edge. (Really nice recording quality too. What did you use?)

Thanks folks.

UB- its actually a studio recording.  Birthday treat was an evening in a modest studio just to see what came out the other end.

Nice work Slim!

Here's a photo I took of Ben that John Adams used on one of the CDs he issued.

Nice finger work. Ben would have appreciated that. Nice thought - I'll tell his daughter.

Created a great feel on this. That pulsing guitar followed by the vocal gives a great hook and rolls the song out nicely.
