Hi all,
I'm very excited to be visiting Scotland for the first time at the end of June, and am looking forward to doing a guitar workshop in Edinburgh. Here are the particulars:
Country Blues Guitar Workshop in Edinburgh, Sunday, June 29:
EAEGBE and DGDGBE Tunings: Learning How to Get Around In Them and How Different Musicians Played in Them. In this four-hour workshop, we will examine these two tunings, which were used for some of the most interesting, varied and subtle Country Blues guitar-playing. Starting with the mysterious EAEGBE tuning, we?ll examine how chords are formed in it, what special advantages it offers those who use it, and how it was used for different sounds by Clifford Gibson, Furry Lewis and Ed Bell. In the second half of the workshop, we?ll look at DGDGBE tuning in the same sort of way, and see how it was used by Lonnie Johnson, Bo Carter and Lil? Son Jackson to get altogether different sounds.
There will be an hour-long meal break in the middle of the workshop. Participants should be comfortable finger-picking Country Blues guitar with an alternating bass. TAB will be provided for the songs we cover, at the end of the presentation, for those who want it. To sign up for the workshop, go to: www.johnmillerguitar.com , in the ?Teaching? section, where location and cost of the workshop and how to enroll are described.
I hope some of you can make it, especially since I won't be able to teach at Northampton this summer. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your time and a special thanks to Professor Scratchy for setting up the workshop.
All best,
Johnm
