Topic: Your favourite strings?

Hello everybody. Just a simple cuestion:
Which are your favourite strings?. I mean Label,Gauge...
I?m always changing from to Martin and some Dean Markley too... From 0.9 to 0.12 on first... But  "still haven?t found what I?m looking for". ;-(
Only in my resonator I use 0.16 with fingerpicks (Da?ddario resonator strings).

Yes, I did see that lonely spot in the ocean...

As for strings, I also experiment a lot.  I find different things preferable on different guitars and depending on my mood, and different gauges give you different feels etc.  I recently strung my 000-15S with 0.13 (mediums) and love what it did for the sound, but it is defintely not as easy to bend strings as a different guitar with extra lights, etc.

I like phosphor bronze light gauge (.012-.054) strings. These days, I'm playing Martin brand because I buy 'em cheap from StringThis.com. D'addario & GHS are fine, too.

Have you considered the British-made strings called "Newtone"?  I find them very good and they stay bright a long long time.  Don't know if they are available on the Canaries though. I am sure you could find some via the Internet.  I have even bought them on eBay before now.

As a matter of interest, what guitar(s) are you talking about here?

Hello Michael.
I?m talking about acoustic guitars. I?ve been playing guitar for a lot of years,but mostly electric and spanish(classical).
I don?t know if you read my post in wich I was asking about guitars under 1000$. This one supposed to be my first acoustic guitar. I didn?t have much money so I tried with one of those chinese guitar called Blueridge..and..Oh my god!. I never thought 499$ could sound so good. I?ve never played a Martin,but I?m still asking me if there will be GREAT differences... Solid woods,top, sides and back (this was the important point for me),superb finish and a couple of inlays to make it more beutiful....
A few month ago I paid 120 Euros for a resonator guitar in Germany.A new one. It was a Santander (??). I?ve never heard to talk about it... Obviously, was a bad guitar with buzzing and a crappy finish, but I wanted it for slide playing only, so I changed the nut (a higer one) and a high tension strings and...voila!!. Everything changed. It was the same crappy guitar but with a new metal-resonator sound and I spent 120 Euros, don?t forget it.
My other guitars are a 57' reissuse Fender Start, Les Paul deluxe (with those mini-humbuckers from 70?s),Gibson SG and Alahambra C-08 (one of the best classical I ever played)...
If I were a rich man (like the song said) I would buyed a National triolian and a Martin to discover what true is the legend...

I have found that  D'Aquisto or Vinci strings in the bluegrass gauge 12 -56, work fine for finger picking on my Nick Lucas.  I can keep the action fairly low and the heavier bass really thumps and the finer high strings are easy to bend and finger pick on.  I get them  at a good price from  FQMS.com.

I use D'Addario 12-54 phosphor bronze lights on my 000-28 and 10-54s on my 12-string. I used to put D'Addario 13s on my reso (Ozark 3515, recently hot-rodded with a Quarterman cone and other bits) but a couple of months ago discovered Michael Messer National strings - which are made in the UK by Newtone. They are really good for that reso sound, especially but not only for slidin'. In forty years of playing I think I might have tried most reputable brands of strings but I've been with D'Addario for about 15 years now. I vowed I would not change unless unavoidable but only the Messers have changed my mind and they are a specialised product.

Elixirs work great for this kind of music! I use the full-coated (not the nano or whatever), medium gauge. When I first heard about them I thought it was absurd, Gore-tex-coated strings, unless you're one of those players with that weird skin chemistry that ruins strings in minutes. But I tried them on my metal guitar and loved the sound -- it mellows out the metallicness a bit, which some might not like but I do. Sort of like broken-in strings right away. Also they feel good and last longer (although they do cost quite a bit more -- I haven't calculated if they turn out to be more or less economical). Now I also use them on my Larrivee parlor, although not on my Martin.

I'll go for Newtone every time for Nationals, I've used them for he last 10 years (with the occasional excursion to try other makes) on my Style O. I find that their nickels suit my FR triplate perfectly. Also their electric slide strings are great.

For my Martin I stick to d'Addario mediums.

I could not recommend coated strings on a slide guitar - the sound is dead, the feel is awful, however it's in the ear of the individual.

I use DR strings on all my guitars....... Change gauge according to guitar........ I've been using these strings for a number of years and haven't found one I like more. They are very "slinky" across the board when compared to other strings of the same gauge.     J
