Wasn't no use for anybody else to come up talkin' about playin' against him, 'cause they couldn't even do what he was doin' -- all they could do was look and wonder how in the hell he done it - Tom Shaw, speaking of Blind Lemon Jefferson

New Nick Katzman cd
« on: June 02, 2009, 11:22:28 AM »
Hi all,

Nick Katzman's 1982 cd 'Sparkling Ragtime and Hardbitten Blues" was about the best thing that came out on the Kicking Mule label.
Well, almost three decades later Nick made another cd called "Prevailing Winds from the South," and it has all the hallmarks of his earlier work: Original blues and ragtime that sound like long lost classics. My favorites include "Rev'd up and Ready," one of his two blistering takes on Rev. Gary Davis; Katzmanatin' Rhythm, an original slide "how'd he do that" kind of piece, and "Missoula Rag," a classic Joplinesque rag. Thomasina Winslow (calling to mind Ruby Green from the Kicking Mule days) guests on one track.

The cd has also a pdf file with tablature for three songs (1 Rev Davis influenced instrumental and two slide pieces)

In my opinion one of the best acoustic blues/ragtime cd's I heard in years.

You can contact Nick through his website directly for a copy

Cheers,
Carl
