I seed a man standin' at the window pullin' off his clothes. So I said, "Hey, Bub, I say, what goes?" So he said, "Look, Bub, if you knowed what I paid for this room and what's in it, them clothes I'm throwin' out the window will be out of style when I come down. - Big Bill Broonzy, Mule Ridin' Blues

Deacon Johnson song
« on: September 09, 2013, 08:01:24 PM »
deacon Johnson was a preachin man
he was the black sky pilot of old Dixieland
he never missed a sunday rain or shine
he was always in the pulpit right on time
one day a dark skin  damsel come and blowed in town
somebody started talking scandalation around
next sunday morn they found the church door locked
and here de only word the preacher left his flock
it takes a long tall dark skin gal to make a preacher lay hi bible down
when deacon Johnson start to go away
the congregation tried to make him stay
they promised him if he didn't leave town
they wouldn't separate him from his brown
the deacon thought it over and said at last
it aint no use my preachen days is past
I never realized where heaven lies
til I looked into dat babies eyes
it takes a long tall dark skin gal to make a preacher lay his bible down
