The British ballads became a new kind of form in their hand. And out of them came the blues, a new kind of song of commentary and satire, a song form which, after all, has become the main musical form of the whole human species. - Alan Lomax

(Do not adjust your set, this is a test for an article to be posted on the Weenie home page.)

?Song of the Month? is a thread for anyone interested in going deep into the country blues canon.

Every month a forum member explains the history of a single song that most of us are familiar with, and that many of us have learned how to play. A list of songs that have been posted and dissected so far can be found at http://weeniecampbell.com/yabbse/index.php?option=com_smf&action=tags;tagid=3488.

The history of each song is accompanied by versions found on video-sharing websites. You?ll hear familiar tunes played by early jazz and pop performers in addition to our country blues heroes.

Do you like to perform? SOTM encourages you to post your own renditions of Trouble in Mind, Shake That Thing, Crow Jane, and other standards of the genre.

SOTM emphasizes two important aspects of Weenie Campbell. One is its guiding principle: ?Preserving Country Blues through Education, Performance and Technology.? The other is forum members sharing their knowledge about the music.

Every few months we put out a call for volunteers to create their own SOTM threads. Check out the list, and if you have a favorite song that hasn?t been covered, you can volunteer the next time we come a-callin?.
