A Rough Guide to Blind Willie Johnson
« on: November 26, 2014, 01:20:05 AM »
G'day Folks,
Just purchased "A Rough Guide to Blind Willie Johnson". It's 2 discs, one with all BWJ & another with various bluesmen singing gospel blues.
Disc 1 contains 22 songs remastered or "reborn" as the marketing men call it.
I must say they have done a pretty good job remastering these songs. They have managed to eliminate most of the hissing & fizzing of the old recordings without losing or reducing the quality of the sound.
Now, I'm definitely no sound technician & others with a better music ear may notice a difference in quality but I think these remastered songs are damn fine.
If you want to listen to the previews of these songs, it's here at

Cheers,
Mal.

Thanks - those sound great to me - I have an old cd of him from the 90's that I ran through adobe soundbooth awhile back and the voice that came out when the scratches were reduced is similar to the Rough Guide , so I think I will really enjoy this with some confidence that they haven't done a number on his voice. I'll put it on the top of my list.

I dig these Rough Guide collections, and they have great sound as well. Many of them are on offer right now, I ordered some more a couple some days ago:

These sound great. It seems to be a shame that there are 8 BWJ songs missing on this collection.

I love these rough guides. I have the Blind Blake and Blind Lemon Jefferson guides. The vinyl versions have less songs but come with a download card to get the full CD version and the accompanying compilation album.
