I got a cigar box, I cut a hole in the top, put a board and nail it on there. And I taken four nails, put wire on 'em from a screen door for strings. I couldn't play it, but I rapped the sides, hootin' and hollerin'. I thought I was doin' something you know. - Furry Lewis recalls his first guitar

Uncle Bud Walker - Look Here Mama Blues lyrics help!
« on: March 14, 2014, 06:09:37 PM »
This is what I have:

Uncle Bud Walker - Look Here Mama Blues

Hey mama, now... I wanna tell you, "what I knew about you"??
I tell you woman, "what I knew about you"??

I believe to my soul my gal got a black cat bone
I believe to my soul my gal got a black cat bone
"said when I leave it sure come creepin on"?

I wonder what's the matter with my rider here
I wonder what's the matter with my rider here
so you don't need my blues and drive me away from here

aaaaaaa... I ain't goin to sing this down, baby the way you turn me around
I met the blues mama, when the sun goes down
I declare to god I never take you down

I ain't gonna stay here mama ain't no worry
I ain't gonna stay here mama ain't no worry
I'm gonna leave up to the country buy me a rocking chair

Oh look a here mama, what do you try to do
Oh look a here mama, what do you try to do
I believe to my soul you, break my heart in two

(The last verse I don't know what he's singin', somethin about It rained five days..?,but the last line seem pretty clear it's:

-Aw let me tell you what I used to be

Thanks! :)

Hi coco,
I'm not sure if I have a recording of "Look Here Mama Blues", but I will check when I'm in my teaching space this week, and if I hear anything that seems helpful, I will post it.
All best,
Johnm

Hi coco,
I listened to a version of this song that was posted on youtube.  Much of what I heard is the same as what you heard.  There are a few differences:
For the intro I heard:
  Hey, mama, now
I want to tell you, well, I know about him
I tell you, mama, I don't know about you

In the fourth verse I heard:
Ahhhhh, Ain't gonna sing this down, mama, the way you turn me 'round
I feel those blues, mama, when the sun go down
I declare to God, I'll never shake you down

Fifth verse I heard:
I ain't gon' stay here, mama, and nowhere else
I ain't gon' stay here, mama, and nowhere else
I gonna live in the country, buy me a rocking chair, hey, hey

The last verse sounded like:
It rained five days, all in the dark for me
It rained five days, honey, dark with me
Oh, let me tell you, what my used-to-be

Sorry this isn't more help.  Uncle Bud Walked was really country.

All best,
Johnm

Hi coco,

I listened as well and couldn't hear anything comprehensible in the problem spots. Like John said, Uncle Bud was definitely country. My username has given me no powers of interpretation here.  :(
