Hi folks. Here are the first of a few fun samples for your consideration. Sorry about the quality. Just trying to keep the file size small. Here is the KC RR Blues from my duet the Columbia County Sheiks.
Thanks for posting all these tunes! Always love the Mississippi Sheiks and you guys did a swell job. One of my old bands,The Keystone Ramblers worked out a bunch of their numbers but I'm not sure if we recorded any of that or not.
Was your band "The Red Birds" the same band that played with Michael Hurley?
You know, I love what modern musicians can bring to some of these old numbers! Songs like the K.C. Whistle, K.C. Moan, or Steamboat Whistle Blues, what ever you want to call it, can live on if we sing them. You brought a big breath of fresh air into a song that has been sung a long time! I love it! The first version I had heard of this song was of course done the Memphis Jug Band (which is by the way my favorite version) then I heard variants of the song done by Charley Patton, John Jackson and even Bob Dylan. I think it?s a keeper!
I recorded a version two years ago in my kitchen and I have since then played it in steady rotation solo or with my groups the Floorbirds and Hollow Pine. I am a young musician and I offer you a simple version of an old song. I hope you enjoy it!
I've been trying to convince my wife to play fiddle with me...she is a classically trained violinist...maybe I can convince her by playing these tunes!!!
