This is a little Tampa Kid tune I'm working up. I assume TK was Joe McCoy doing his Tampa Red impression. Interesting to play though.

Re-done conversion attached Nice one, Uncle Phil. Hope it finds its way onto your forthcoming album.
See what you mean about quality - sounds like you recorded it under water! I still say all this digital stuff ain't all it's cracked up to be. Consequently I'm still trying to replace my CDs with vinyl where possible. Thanks PP. It was recorded to tape through studio mics - the recording is superb - it's when we hit digital that things fell apart - I struggled to convert to mp3 and keep the file size down below 800. Eventually used CDex, anyone any tips?
Quote Eventually used CDex, anyone any tips? What were your compression settings on CDex? I've upped the file limit size by 25% to 1 meg -- see if that will get you a decent digital recording. Cheers, Nevermind - I see the settings. 32kbps and 44khz (very nice job by the way)
Weird - something is wonky with the conversion -- those settings should not produce that garbled sound -- I've been broadcasting Juke tunes ar 24kbps and 22khz with no garble and very decent sound for some time. Although lowering the khz will not reduce file size - it might improve the sound - have you tried a lower khz? Also, you should convert to MONO -- that will double the quality right there -- in fact THAT is the problem, now that I look at your file more closely. Great job. Even through all the compression problems I can see that the performance is very authentic. Excellent!
I never did figure out how to compress to keep it under 800K and that is why I usally link to my songs. Of course I usually use a couple three tracks. A few things that I have figured out however, 1. Keep the song short 2. Use only one track 3. Record in mono 4. And of course use the smallest bitrate you can get away with I am often amazed by the quality that some of the songs on the Back Porch come up with. Maybe someone more "digisonically" literate than myself can offer some advice but until then Great job and kudos on the extreme authenticity. Mark Quote Thanks Slack, stereo is the problem. I'll re-post tomorrow in mono. Great! Looking Forward to an ungarbled version! dang
Sorted, I've edited the original post. Ahh... I was worried there for a bit. I'm just starting to record stuff and I thought it sounded great, but with all those complaints I was wondering what sort of quality people expect. Dan G Hi Phil,
You did an extra nice job on this tune. It really sounds great! Happy holidays. All best, Johnm Pages: [1] Go Up
