Len at Vintage Nationals is a great guy.

I have a KHG-14 Kalamazoo and it has its own unique sound. One guitar I doubt I would part with.

I purchased mine from Bernunzio because they did all the repairs before selling.

Why do Gibsons have to sound so good and cost so much?  If I could afford one... I'd be able to get a new car.

O'Muck, you're completely right.  I really do need to marry a rich woman.
Puttin' on my Carrhartts, I gotta work out in the field.

I bought a 1930's Kalamazoo from Hanks in Denmark Street a while ago for ?500 - they had that and a same era Gibson for ?525 - I went for the Kalamazoo as it was in better nick and sounded more - bluesy!

I no longer have it - I sold it to my boyfriend so it's still in the family....

He also has a Kalamazoo archtop which has an identical body shape to the flattop.

How do I tell the differences - and what model is the archtop likely to be.

My b/f also has a 1947 Gibson LG1.

KG-14 looks like a Gibson L-00 and shares a sunburst finish. The KGN-12 or Oriole is the same shape, but has a natural finish (hence the "N") and the KG-11 is the slightly odd-shaped one (sunburst again).

I'm sure a quick Google Image search will throw up some relevant pictures.

Yes the guy who used to play with Mike Messer and Stuart Cumberpatch in The Kennet Sheiks had the slightly odd shaped Kalamazoo!

Ours was (and is) like an L-0.

His 1947 LG-1 is louder though!

Does anyone know anything about Michigan brand spider cone  guitars - I know Harry Gurevich had one (which was stolen) - Chris (b/f) had one - and I had one (I'm playing that on one of my youtube clips) - sold that one to Chris too - hehe!

It's not all been one way though - I learnt my first few old time banjo tunes on a fretless banjo Chris sold me!
