Is it required to own a 12 string to join this illustrious society? If one would go out and buy an affordable 12 string what guitar would you recommend?

I know one song on the record and that is One Dime Blues. Although McTell (or the producer had the title wrong) called it Last Dime Blues.

I played a relatively inexpensive Seagull Twelve string that was not half bad....

The Paul brett ones seem relatively well thought of as modern ones.

Worth keeping an eye out for 70s Yamahas as well.  Cheap and solid.

Excellent Frank! Which chords did you play during the solo (the ascending run) ? Looks like a B7 shape?
I always kinda struggle with that part in this song.

I think I like the McTell version even better than the Jefferson original.

Hehe - I'm kinda gaining on it, aren't I?  There are two that I've done previously, just not as a video...  I may leave those for last. There are a couple in there that are intimidating in the same way that Dying Crapshooter is: it's ALL about the delivery. We'll see if I can crack those.

Harry - it's like a B7 shape, mute the 2nd and 4th string...  that's what I hear him doing, anyway. It's a very interesting cover of Lemon, actually - he manages to get all the basic contours of Lemon's performance while doing almost NOTHING like Lemon! :)

In all my years living in Australia I have yet to set eyes on a REAL 12 string like Frankie has, I ask for them everywhere I go and when I tell the guys what they are selling is not only a fake 12 string but an almost unplayable pile of rubbish they give me a funny look because they don't know any better... I do not regard 12 strings tuned to normal E like usual 6 string guitars as 12 strings.... you can't sound like Leadbelly or Willie McTell and they are so tightly strung anything you try on them apart from strumming sounds like rubbish.... I know the proper ones with heavy strings and the right kind of bracing tuned all the way down to B or C etc do exist somewhere but there appear to be none below the equator. The REAL 12 strings sound awesome, I could get Gerard Gilet to custom make me one.... for around 8 to 9000 Australian Dollars butthat is beyond me..... so if anyone knows an alternative... something not too pricey I would dearly love some tips... thanks guys.... great playing too Frankie.

See if you can track down a Guild, AB. I use an F-212-XL, which I take down as far as Bb with no trouble; and I think fairly much every Guild 12 I've played has been the real deal. Unfortunately, it does seem that the 12-string guitar is an endangered species these days.

I bought one of these; it's no Stella but it'll do until I save up for a Fraulini.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WMGH6QQ/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=1944687522&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00BCC1U6I&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=5KEX61GC7JM8CVTBXTNR

I had to take a file to about 5 of the frets that protruded past the end of the neck but for the price I don't think you can't beat it. I put mediums on it and tuned it down 3 or 4 frets. Haven't tried anything heavier yet but I think it would stand up to it. X braced but it stays in tune and the intonation is good.
