Thanks for linking to this, which I enjoyed reading.  I think well of Wardlow's early and continued research (and once wrote to him any years ago) and am interested in his reports though I think his writing leaves much to be desired, often inadvertently raising questions and posing other editorial problems.  I could give examples, but won't for now.  Thanks again.

RB- Just saw your post.  I appreciate your comments on my writing, but more than 23,000 blues fans do not share your views on " my writing's desireability" as that many readers have purchased my book "Chasin' That Devil Music" since 1998.  If you will identify yourself and tell me what you wrote me about  I 'll be happy to check my old responses to see what I wrote back to you and what year it was.
You are more than welcome to post any unanswered questions on the Oertle article and I will turn over my sources  to you and let you find the answers and you can post them for forum readers. I am sure you would welcome that opportunity to clear up any questions I "inadvertertly raised." You might be interested in knowing that Living Blues cut some of the article for space limitations also. What  other editorial problems???
Finally, if you have been published, I'd be glad to read any such article to learn how to be a better writer, a goal I always strive for-- from my newspaper background--one that I have never claimed comes from an adademic background. gdw

Gayle -

Nicely handled. G.B. Shaw supposedly wrote, "That that can, do. Those that cannot, teach." I say "those that cannot teach, criticize"!

Damn!

I guess I can scratch my copy of that book as a future "collectible". ;-)

FWIW, I *love* GDW's writing style.

I have sent Gayle Wardlaw a note after seeing his above and received a judicious one back.  But I want to report here that the link to the article (which I wish to go back to reread so I can comment on it again) above is not working at present.

I think I can find the article by opening the livingblues website separatelty however.

Greetings:

The link works, article is on page 70.

I like GDW's writing style, and would like to thank him for the article.

Thanks to Mr. Wardlow and RSKKZ for posting this, as well as the interviews.  Fascinating stuff.  I have Chasin' that Devil and would recommend it to anyone here.  It has a CD as well.

That's a great read, and another piece in place in the Johnson puzzle. Thanks for writing this, hope more will come.
