When The Levee Breaks (Memphis Minnie)- seeking video lesson
« on: April 06, 2020, 02:50:24 AM »
Can anyone recommend an instructional guitar lesson on how to play this like Memphis Minnie? I've found some good recordings/covers on Youtube but I want something slowed right down and easy to follow..a teaching video... :)

Ari has videos of him playing this where you can follow what he’s doing.
Erin Harpe has a simplified video online.
It’s well within you abilities to sort out Bob.

Del Rey has a good video lesson on Memphis Minnie, it's on there.
True though, Ari Eisinger plays it just great, you can probably pick up what's going on from him.

Del doesn't teach it on the Homespun video, she just plays her arrangement of it. A long time ago I remember watching a youtube vid of Del playing the song, a low-res video taken at a concert. Maybe it's still up.

Lindy's right, Del doesn't break the song down.
Still there is that double screen thing at the same time to show her left hand and right, so it's very clear what she's playing. She does a bunch of neat things. It's on Homespun, called the Blues Guitar Styles of Memphis Minnie. It's a good one and she's so enthusiastic, it's worth it.

If I were you, I would contact Del and ask her to give you a private online lesson.  Her email is delrey@delreyplays.com

A hang out with Del Rey, always a good time!!

Come on Bob, time to post an attempt!  Only thing that’s tricky is the timing.
