This ol' world is just too straightfaced for me... we need to laugh more... or as a friend of mine said recently... 'I'm so straight, the stick up my ass has a stick up its ass - Blind Brand X (Ragtime Ralph)
Wonderful Laura! I don't feel the need for another instrument at all. The performance is spare and beautiful as is, and your singing is a sheer pleasure. I kept thinking that if you HAD to have another instrument you could do worse than have it be a fiddle. The tune lends itself to long bow strokes. Keep it up, more, more!

My loathings are simple: stupidity, oppression, crime, cruelty, soft music. Vladimir Nabokov (1899 - 1977)
Well done, Laura! Absolutely wonderful--Great singing, solid playing and a perfect balance! You really should play out--if you're not doing so already--as you're too good to limit your audience to the internet crowd.
Oh Rivers, your white goods knowledge disappoints me.....It's a washing machine.
Seriously though, thank you everyone for the positive comments. I had some vague notion about playing out and thought I'd try this song as it's quite simple and easy not to mess up too much! Now I just need to get the nerve to try it on a live audience
Yes, that does explain why I couldn't find it in my coffee table edition of Gruhn & Carter's "Front Loading Tumble Dryers and Other Kitchen Appliances".
Stick with the picks for that song, guitar sounds great behind your vocal.

Instead of filling up the Back Porch with my YouTube spam, I thought I'd just add this one on to my last post. ... I know there's very little to this accompaniment but I was quite proud to work it out myself. Timing is a bit out.
Sounds good, Laura, and I sure like where you're pitching your vocals. That one seems like it came together pretty fast--is that the case? You're sounding like you'd really sound good on some Frank Stokes songs. A lot of his songs are similar instrumentally to Joe Callicott's, or vice versa. All best, Johnm
Thanks dj and Phil! Yes, John - it did come together fast...I need to do something more interesting both left and right hand when I'm in that "A" I'll figure something out.
I like Frank Stokes' voice and style. I really need to listen to him more. Thanks for the recommendation.
That Martin hog-top clearly suits you and sounds great.
Suggestions for guitar part: play in drop D (you'd have to watch the bottom string on the G chord - I tend to fret the 5th [fret that is] and play alternating bass on strings 4 and 6). Also, to add a little interest to the A, you could play the classic country blues "long A" which also allows for the odd 7th with your second finger. There are also potential positions up towards the dusty end of the neck. (Given your apparent skills, you probably know more about such things than I do...)
Keep posting these great performances.
