Teddy Williams Lyrics
(1/1)
Johnm:
Hi all,
Teddy Williams was a Mississippian recorded by George Mitchell in Canton, Mississippi on September 16, 1967. He had an unusual version of "Black Mattie" that he played in E position in standard tuning. Here is Teddy Williams' version of "Black Mattie":
INTRO
Black Mattie's face shine, like the sun
Lipstick and powder sure don't, help her none, Lord,
Black Mattie's face shine, just like the sun
Oh, lipstick and powder, sure don't help her none
Got up this morning, baby, I had you, on my mind
Couldn't sleep for dreamin', baby, I couldn't, dream for cryin', says I
Got up this mornin', oh Lord, had you on my mind
Ain't gonna marry, ain't gon' settle down
Me and my baby gonna ride from, town to town, said I
Ain't gonna marry, ain't gon' settle down
Oh, me and my baby gon', ride from town to town
Ain't your good looks, baby, it ain't the, clothes you wear
Nice disposition to carry you, anywhere, says it ain't
Your good looks and it, ain't the clothes you wear
Baby, that nice disposition will, carry you anywhere
Wrote me a letter, I laid it up on the shelf
Mailman so long comin', i decided, go myself, says you
Wrote me a letter and I, laid it up on the shelf
Woman I love, she weigh about, ninety pound
Tailor-made brownskin, ain't no, hand-me-down, says the
Woman I lovin', weigh about ninety pound
CODA
All best,
Johnm
