Blind Lemon Jefferson lyrics

<< < (143/155) > >>

Blues Vintage:
Are we discussing take 1 (march 1926) or take 2 (may 1926) ? Although Lemon probably used the same word for both versions.

According to Stephen Calt's Barrelhouse Words it's "hard to rule"
According to Michael Taft's Talkin To Myself it's "hard to fool"

In the Taft book it's indicated that he transcribed take 1. Calt didn't make this clear.

On take 2, the one I was familiar with, I thought I heard "rule" too but now that I've listened to take 1 it's definitely "fool"

Where's Chris?

banjochris:
I'll take a listen later today!

waxwing:
Sounds to me that on the take from March he sings "fool", but on the take from May, which is the one that appears on the Yazoo "Best of...", it sure sounds like he does indeed sing "school", Johnm.

Wax

Johnm:
Yup, I have the Yazoo version, Wax.  Glad you're hearing it that way as well.
All best,
Johnm

banjochris:
I agree with Wax -- there's 2 takes from March, both of which are "fool" (one of those takes is on the Document Too Late Vol. 11) and I hear "school" on the later take, which is the one on the Yazoo set.
Chris
