...traditional musicians, too, often try to "get it down just like" an admired player picks a particular tune. This is not slavish imitation for its own sake but rather a passionate desire to get at the very sinews of the style, based on the realization that the impact of traditional music depends on detail and an evocative context... - Art Rosenbaum, Old-Time Mountain Banjo

PTCBW 2004
« on: September 07, 2003, 09:31:02 PM »
The workshop proper goes from August 2-8 this year.  We are currently awaiting more Pre-Soak bookings.

And GET READY for 2005- our Weenie Campbell PTCBW Conference application is in and running!

                                     ==============================================================

July 2004 - CORRECTION:  Weenerhausen will replace the Weenie Campbell PTCBW 2005 Conference.  Negotiations for Weenie Campbell PTCBW Conference(s) are on indefinite hold.

In the meantime, Weenerhausen Oh 4 is all the way live!

Cheers,
Jed

All right Jed, a Weenie conference! ;)

Just to clarify briefly for the folks that have inquired about officers housing (waxwing, noflatpick).  Ft Warden state housing is difficult and as you can see Jed works on it off and on for the whole year.... even though we never know what housing, (and this coming year if _any_ housing), will be available until shortly before PTCBW.  It is also complicated by the fact that Centrum reserves a block of housing.  The past few years we've worked with Centrum on getting housing by 'helping out' in with the workshop various ways.... but there no guarantees.  Jed fills housing slots by "seniority".

The reference to 2005 is that Ft Warden gives priority to "conferences" -  or parties of 29.  We're going to take a chance and see if we can come up with 29 weenies in 2005.  Gulp.

cheers,

Thanks, Slack.  Actually, 32 is the published minimum, but 29 (90% - you didn't read it here) should do in a pinch.  I'm confident in Weenie's spirit for 2005; note that we'll be working to fill spots as soon as the Conference Center gets back to me with a positive answer.

Probably before November.  Weenies, get ready!

Cheers,
Jed

Count me in for 2004 & 2005 incl. pre-soak --- I have a lot of tequila yet to sample, and the supply is not good in Sudbury.

Hey Jed, would you add my name to the bottom of your list?

2003 was my first time.  Had a blast, but I the dorm food sucked!  Sure would like a chance to upgrade to "deluxe accomodations".

Yo Weenies,

I will be attending PT2004.  Are there any Canadian Weenies who will be driving down from Vancouver to attend.  My mother is turning 90 on July 30; and to celebrate, the whole family is going on an Alaskan cruise. We arrive in Vancouver 7:00am the morning of August 2, 2004.  I would rather drive down from Vancouver with some Weenies than fly to Seattle that morning and then take the shuttle north.

oops!  last message got sent prematurely (what keystroke did that??).

Swampman - there will be a Canuck Crew heading south from Vancouver on the Friday late afternoon (July 30) to make the Pre-soak @ PT  8).  FrontPage 'n Sudbury at a minimum will drive down from Van airport.  Don't know about the Monday (Aug 2) - good luck.

Dougal - I may have a complication, but should know the details soon. I just learned that one of my nephews is to be married on July 31 (I think?) in Vancouver. If my wife decides we need to make a showing in the interests of family fidelity, I will have to delay my drive to PT until either late Saturday or Sunday morning. Should know more in a few days, as we're having dinner with the out-laws this weekend. For a variety of reasons, we're thinking we may not go, but the final decision rests with the 'blood relative', who happens to be sporting X chromosomes. You know how that goes.
Cheers,

What is pre-soak?

Hi Tim,
Welcome to the site!  I think you will have a lot of fun at Port Townsend.  It has been great fun every time I have been there and I have only missed one.  Pre-soak is a term one of the long-time Weenies coined for arriving at the Fort a couple of days in advance of the Camp officially beginning, and getting a head start on the music-making and revelry.
All best,
Johnm

Hi Tim,

Welcome aboard! You won't regret your decision to attend the workshop. A great great time is had by all. Feel free to ask questions about it, as many of us are veterans. Some of the Centrum folk are on the board as well and will occasionally chime in with their own insight.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

How do you arrange to be "pre-soaked"?  Where do people stay during the pre-soak period?

Is there any advantage to having a car during the workshop, or are all activities in one location?  Do most people stay at the Fort?

Lwood will be attending pre-soak starting Saturday. I need lodging from Sat thru
Sat. That would be 8 nights.
Lwood is happy to attend pre-soak. Welcome new people. Where are the girls? Shelly et al? You said you were staying this year!
