thanks everybody!

o'muck - that guitar is a 42 or 43 Harmony H162 (bought about 10 yrs ago for $75 from Elderly! Seventy-five bucks!) that had been sitting in the closet because I had scavenged one of the bridge pins a while back (actually, about 6 years ago, maybe more).  Dug it out this weekend and it was great to be reminded what a guitar it is - simple and to-the-point.
