As we crossed over the border into unconventional America, the road, as it usually does, became a muddy lane with axle-threatening ruts and crevasses - Alan Lomax, heads out to Panola and Tunica counties

Nathan Beauregard in his 80's. Nathan Beauregard aged 76. (Born Colbert, Ms on July 2, 1892; recorded in Memphis on July 20, 1968). Died in Memphis on May May 25, 1970. Apparently his surname was sometimes rendered Bogard, which is a well-established family name in Memphis. But he was no relation to the gospel-singing Bogards (Bogard Brothers). Thanks Al. He's listed in a couple of places as "1887, 1893 or 1896" and I probably got the 1887 date from discogs.
Some "new" Pigmeat Pete and Catjuice Charlie stuff just appeared on YouTube:
I'll throw in the "Turpentine Farm" again too, just because it's great! Cheers Pan Thanks so much for posting those, Pan! I love everything these guys did, and I haven't had access to "Do It Right" for a couple of years. All they need now on YouTube is "The Gin Done Done It"!
All best, Johnm alyoung
Anyone know anything about Kid Prince Moore? Another blues mystery man. His recordings are all (including the unissued tracks and the ones with Shorty Bob Parker) on Document DOCD-5180. But neither the notes to 5180, nor Bruce Bastin's Red River Blues (which 5180 notes writer Keith Briggs references) have any biographical details about him except that -- based on his playing -- he was probably from the Carolina/Piedmont area. And that's about it ... unless anyone know of any more recently discovered information. Thanks for the Kid Prince Moore!
Never fails to amaze me the often IMHO profound depth of capture of the music, its beauty, simplicity and power with the early analog recording systems. http://mirc.sc.edu/islandora/object/usc%3A1763 Funny, I was just coming here to post this link. Richard, you will want to watch. Details: Title: African American children dancing--outtakes Item Title: Fox Movietone News Story 1-570 Temporal: Coverage Filmed on December 4th, 1928. Description: Two boys dance in a New Orleans park while another boy plays music on a homemade drum kit. Fun! Hi all,
I was excited to find this early recording of Pete Franklin on youtube. I'd never heard anything of his earlier than his recordings for Prestige in the '60s. He already had his sound in 1949, obviously--21 years old! Beautiful heavy time! All best, Johnm
