If you want to learn how to make songs yourself, you take your guitar and you go to where the road crosses that way, where a crossroads is. Get there, be sure to get there just a little 'fore 12 that night so you know you'll be there. You have your guitar and be playing a piece there by yourself... A big black man will walk up there and take your guitar and he'll tune it. And then he'll play a piece and hand it back to you. That's the way I learned to play anything I want - Tommy Johnson, to his brother

It's always a treat to watch and listen to Muireann sing and play. She's quite talented. And I enjoyed reading the exchange between her and Erin Harpe below in the comments section. Hopefully at some point she'll cut an album's worth of duets with her father like Erin did with Neil.

Hi all,
Here is Arzo Youngblood doing "Bye Bye Blues". I sure love his rhythmic feel and his looseness. So funky!
All best,
Johnm

Roger Hubbard performs a Robert Johnson classic on his relatively recently acquired old Martin. Many players tackle Johnson's work, but in my opinion few seem to get the feel just right, whereas Roger always does.

Wow, talk about smooth and in control, thanks for posting.

Looks like so much happening at the ABC Club, that's where the recently posted Mick Knight vids were recorded, yes?

Please keep 'em comin' . . .

Thanks for the post. Roger also plays "Hellhound," which is  on YT. I listened to his recording from his "Brighton Belle Blues" LP. Even though it was done 50 years ago, it was still a mature version, IMHO. The only real change is that Roger's voice is lower.

As a long-term fan and friend of Roger's, I have seen him play live many, many times and he never plays a piece the same way twice. He invariably makes subtle modifications to the arrangement with ease. His excuse it that he might get bored otherwise! Great if you can do it... Years ago in his antique furniture restoration workshop (another talent!), I picked up a guitar and played a lame, simple version of a Rev. Gary Davis tune. Roger commented that I was missing some bits out, took the guitar and, never having played the piece for decades, proceeded to play something that sounded just like the good Reverend's original. He also has the ability to sit in with a band and play stunning accompaniments and licks whilst being unfamiliar with the keys, songs and arrangements. There never seems to be a note out of place. A remarkable talent.
