Gang Wolf Lightnin' LP Record
« on: July 13, 2018, 07:25:51 AM »
Hi Folks, I would like to share my LP record that recently got out.

I recorded this at home, it's a compilation of 1920's-30's Blues renditions.

I've learned a lot here in Weenie Campbell, and you guys helped me a lot...It's not easy for a guy from  Barcelona to get into this deep american southern culture... I remember back then when the Weenie Juke was still on... Coming back home from work and listenin' to your radio channel, that was really inspiring.

I hope you enjoy this, as I enjoyed doin it.

Thanks

You just made a top country blues record. Very impressive. Your original written song is just as good as the others. Would this get a review on a issue of Living Blues Magazine? I gotta notify Jim O'Neal.

Well done, coco! --Excellent choice of material combined with solid singing and playing. And the best part, IMHO, is that it sounds like you, and not you trying to sound like someone you're not.

I've had the chance to sit down today and listen to this properly.  It really is excellent.  The playing is smooth and clean, but absolutely right for the music.  It nevers squares and rounds things off in the way that some clean smooth playing can do (to the detriment of old blues tunes).  The feel is absolutely spot on.

Strong vocals and fine choice of tunes.  Love it.

Coco- I'm really interested in the recording setup as you have really nailed the sound.  How was it done?

Yes it really is a fine album. Downloaded it a couple of weeks ago and have enjoyed all the performances. Recommended!

Congratulations coco, great music, vocals and guitar.

Re how was it recorded, I found this on the bandcamp page:

Quote
Recorded in Barcelona 2017, using an old RCA 44 ribbon mic and a tube pre-amp. My May-Bell parlor guitar and a 12-string Stella

Love the album cover, looks like my barn.

I'm really glad you guys liked the record!!! It makes me really happy to read all those comments. Thank you. I've been really busy selecting the songs, rehearsing them, tryin' to find the right sound, doin' the record cover etc...

The recording setup was the old RCA 44 Ribbon mic, plugged into a small mixer where I could EQ a little bit, and then directly to the tube pre-amp, so I could raise the gain knob a bit and get these fat warm tube sound before it goes to the reel to reel tape. so, old school analog sound!

Obviously, later it was digitalized in WAV format, and then pressed into vinyl.
