Tampa Red Slide Songs Recommendations
« on: April 21, 2011, 02:20:12 PM »
Hello to all,
I never checked out Tampa Reds single string melodic bottleneck style so I'm looking to download a couple of songs. Any recommendation? Thanks

Ron

Ma Rainey's "Black Eye Blues" sublime accompaniment, "Prison Bound" - great instrumental version.

Seminole Blues.

Edit: Just noticed that's my 1000th post. Looking forward to the gold watch, piles of free CDs, excellent condition Gibson L-00, etc. etc.....

I believe blueshome is in charge of prizes.

Forgot to recommend a Tampa Red tune. Another of his instrumentals, "Bumble Bee Blues". Also "You Got to Reap What You Sow".

Hi all,
I think my favorite Tampa Red playing might be on "House Rent Scuffle", where he and the great pianist Charles Avery back Lil Johnson.  The time that Avery and Red generate on that tune is "die happy" stuff.  it can be found on the Yazoo piano anthology, "Shake Your Wicked Knees", Yazoo 2035, a review of which can be found at:  http://weeniecampbell.com/yabbse/index.php?amp;Itemid=60&topic=2189.0
All best,
Johnm

Ooh, that's a good one, just listened to it. I have it on Document's Tampa Vol. 2. I like it when these threads tease out a song I hadn't paid attention to before.
