Hi all,
Here's one to go along with uncle bud's one-word quote from Gus Cannon.

"Listen!!!"--Sonny Stitt's response to a young pianist backing him who asked what chord substitutions he was using on a well-known Jazz Standard.

All best,
Johnm

"Life has surface noise!"
- British DJ John Peel
That was a classic of 40 years ago.

From memory it was his observation after playing a Charlie Patton track on the recently released double LP Story Of The Blues. I think it went something on the lines of "That was blah, blah, blah from 1930 hence the surface noise, but life has surface noise". The phrase "Life has surface noise!"  has been cited many times on the internet but never, to the best of my knowledge, in its original context.

Hi all,
The Gene Autry quote makes you wonder what they called him in places other than El Paso.
All best,
